MY favorite week in NYC is upon us. On the platform at VJ this morning is a foreign family (British, I presume) in tracksuits, ready to tour the city before they run the city on Sunday, as well as a smattering of costumed commuters. When I get to midtown there’s many more of the same motley mix. Motley only if you’re not from NYC. And the weather, need I say more?((random disclosure about global warming))

OH my, we are a week and a half into Pumpkin Spice Latte month and I have yet to regale you with Autumn trappings. The Back to School freneticism has subsided, though as any parent knows it is never truly quelled. Next up on the Fall calendar is UN Week, which given the Midtown traffic snarl that I got caught up in last evening seems to have turned into UN Month. Anyway the Full Monty version replete with World Leaders occurs the week of September 23rd. Insider Tip: Take the Underground all of September and leave the wheels at home.

SEVERAL weeks ago I received an email (blast) from our local Council Member Julie Won announcing a new ‘Open Waterfront Access Plan for Long Island City.’ This plan boils down to creating a continuous Riverwalk between Queensbridge Park and Gantry Plaza State Park. Great idea!

ANYONE who’s walked to the Vernon/Jackson subway station during work hours this week could not have missed the renewed construction on the empty lot on 50th Avenue and Vernon Boulevard. In addition to a new fence, there was briefly a freshly printed permit and rendering with an expected completion date of Fall 2025. Will this come to pass? Who knows?!? Why was it delayed all these years and suddenly sprung to life? Ahh, if these walls could talk, but I don’t think it had anything to do with political prodding. Will Hunters Point get a new Starbucks, other national chain, or a ‘homegrown’ purveyor? Yah Mon, I already told you I do not know. But progress…
