Plaxall Joins Waterfront Development Group – All Systems Go For Rec Center?

Plaxall has decided to join the other waterfront land holders in order to create a Master Plan for the 28 contiguous acres of Hunters Point North that it encompasses. LICtalk has been advocating for a Master Plan for this large plot since before Amazon was proposed (and then deposed), and we’ve been advocating for a key component of this plan – a Rec Center – for half a decade. There’s no need to hold workshops on this aspect of the plan, the people have already spoken. In fact I would say any plan ultimately put forward is DOA without the inclusion of a Rec Center. I hope the powers-that-be are listening, I’d hate to see another Amazon-type rejection due to community disapproval, real or not.

The Waterfront Premium in Long Island City

This morning Bisnow held their annual Long Island City/Queens Real Estate Event. No revelations were shared and most of the banter was just such, which this late in the economic cycle is not surprising. So we will use it as a jumping off point in regards to a trend in regards to Long Island City real estate that’s been occurring for a few years but has yet to be publicized.

NY Times Gives Rave Architectural Review to Hunters Point Library

THE critic has spoken and in so doing is probably just the start of what I expect to be a cavalcade of accolades for the Hunters Point Library. Now that it’s been completed, might its opening be the final piece that puts the LIC waterfront on the global stage? We already have the ~~iconic~~ instagrammable Pepsi Sign, the Gantries, and of course the in-your-face views of Manhattan. Throw in a pair of ferry stops, MoMA PS1 and the intrigue fomented by Amazon and its rejection, and the library opening and subsequent frenzy becomes the pièce de résistance for hordes of tourists.

Pepsi’s JetBlue Sign & More on Condos & Library in Long Island City

I can live with this …for a month anyway

The Pepsi sign in Long Island City has spawned a corporate sidekick as JetBlue has had it’s trademarked calligraphy affixed to the structure along the waterfront. According to The Wall Street Journal the illuminated blue sign will stay there until October 1 and is part of a promotion whereby JetBlue is starting to serve Pepsi products aboard its flights.
