The Pepsi sign in Long Island City has spawned a corporate sidekick as JetBlue has had it’s trademarked calligraphy affixed to the structure along the waterfront. According to The Wall Street Journal the illuminated blue sign will stay there until October 1 and is part of a promotion whereby JetBlue is starting to serve Pepsi products aboard its flights.

Let’s Get Political Long Island City
Any resemblance to a normal multi-section newspaper is purely coincidental
POLITICS – for quite some time the lights on the Empire State Building have gone dark to honor the victims in various mass shootings. Whether it be Pittsburgh or Parkland, Orlando or Vegas, San Bernardino or Charleston, the frequency of the shootings in recent years has programmed me to automatically make the link between seeing the darkened tower and whatever city the tragedy occurs. Monday night was the exception, when the owners decided to “rebroadcast” their “Gun Violence Awareness Day” orange lighting from just this past June, in sympathy with El Paso and Dayton. Hopefully it’s not the only exception made in regards to this issue.

The site currently houses an innocuous two-story windowless warehouse, parking lot and small loading bay that a quick google indicates is owned by Fortress Holding NY, which I assume is the large private equity firm similarly named an art storage facility (ty avid-reader Shelley). NYC officials have been holding talks with property owners and leaders in Long Island City about joining forces and coming up with a master plan for the northern portion of the LIC Waterfront according to Politico via The Real Deal. This acreage includes the two lots that were part of the Amazon deal as well as the 5-acre plot just north coined ‘Lake Vernon.’
