I’ve used that tired headline for four years in a row now. It’s the gift that keeps on giving to lazy journalists everywhere. Spring has sprung, yeah so what? Whatever the season, we promise to use recycled material only 50% of the time, and we also promise to be correct 50% of the time. That means you have a 1 in 4 chance of reading up-to-date and accurate information. I think those odds are a lot better than [Read more…] about SPRING HAS SPRUNG IN 2015
Nope, you are not going to find any easter eggs in this picture, no spring flowers either. With what might be an oil derrick in the back right of the photo, this could be a desert somewhere in the Middle East …or Texas, if it weren’t for the Manhattan skyline at the top. Instead it is an empty lot slated to be the LIC Library(sponsor’s name tbd). Now I don’t know about you, but all I’m reading these days is about municipal budget cuts, the brunt of which seem to be falling on perceived “discretionary” spending such as libraries. I think the average New York City library is open about 3 1/2 hours a month if I’ve been reading correctly. But not here in LIC! We’re getting a brand-spanking new library on the water with drop dead views of Manhattan. Why us? Because in case you haven’t read my other posts, LIC is becoming the center of the universe. Anyway who really cares why as long as they stock Playboy. In other LIC news, we have two more new openings, and surprise surprise: the articles make no mention of Chuck Schumer attending the ribbon-cutting! Actually he was there but his attendance at these press conferences has become the default position for the media so only his absence warrants a mention. Happy Easter and Passover, go get them eggs!
It’s not just flowers that have sprung up over LIC recently, many new residential projects seem to have blossomed after coming out of my winter hibernation several weeks ago. Pictured here is the new TF Cornerstone project on the north end of Center Boulevard. One building is currently being rented and several people have already moved in, the second one is right behind that, and the third looks due for arrival around New Years Day 2013. In other news we have the good and the bad: the good news is there’s yet another new hotel for your in-laws from Jersey to stay at when visiting you in LIC, the bad news is they won’t ever be able to take the 7 Train directly to do so(or maybe that’s good news too). Plus Court Square station is open and yet another new school is scheduled to open. Finally, if you thought working at Goldman Sachs was your ticket to enormous wealth then you’re still stuck in a 2011 mindset, the answer is in your back yard, one word Ben: “Taxis”
Spring has sprung and with it has brought a tsunami of flowers and news to LIC. Amongst other stories you can learn where to stash your excess Picassos and Rembrandts now that all the walls in your 700′ square foot two-bedroom are covered with your children’s finger-paintings and “murals.” Also, while new trees are certainly a nice contribution to the ‘hood, when it comes to currying my favor I’m more the Open Bar type. In a similar vein, Friends of Gantry Park is looking for 400 Andrew Jackson’s. There’s also a cool profile on an old School LIC pioneer. Finally, as if they really need any more publicity, a link to the new M. Wells joint that’s opening in May.
