Men and women in blue suede shirts emblazoned with the logo “Tenant King” have invaded LIC. What is Tenant King? Basically a community bulletin board for Long Island City.
We wrote about the company’s local founders and provenance back in March. Four months later and we noticed their young employees canvassing the town, promoting the site, and signing up users. The traffic on the website has expanded considerably in the last few months, and I could not help but think how it tucks in perfectly with the desire to connect locally, go green, and join the sharing economy.
Let’s face it, whether you are living solo in a studio, or with a child or two in a 2-bedroom, there is only a limited amount of room in most LIC apartments. The last thing you need is more “stuff.” Sites like this offer a new avenue to buy and sell locally, and if it’s not quite right, buy and sell again. Gee, if only I had Tenant King available after my wedding, all three of them.
Marriage or moving, pregnancy or pre-K, toddlers or teens, the transient nature of LIC leads to a lot of changes. So what can Tenant King be used for?
How about finding a local babysitter, dentist, or housekeeper?
How about buying or selling a bed, dresser, table, …or a handbag or kids scooter?
How about organizing a basketball, soccer, or tennis game?
How about subletting an apartment, either as lessor or lessee?
How about asking questions regarding the neighborhood, such as “Where’s the best place to get my dog groomed or tot schooled?” and “Who has the best sushi in LIC?”
The options are endless, everything you need locally is at your fingertips. So sign-up today and connect with your neighbors in Long Island City. As an added bonus you’ll be helping enhance the American economy and saving the planet to boot. Oh, did I mention it is also free and easy-to-do?
Tenant King Website – buy, sell, communicate, & connect in LIC, but first you need to sign-up!
The Ride-Sharing, Handbag-Borrowing Productivity Revival – “Emerging online services are connecting consumers such as Gray to a previously untapped universe of idle assets, enabling them to squeeze more value out of cars, designer dresses, baby, toys, and bedrooms that belong to other people or businesses.”
They’re All Connected – Wow, way back in 2008 The New York Times did a story on a similar connecting service featuring local residents from LIC’s Gantry Condos. Plus they came up with another use: dating. Maybe I’ll find my fourth wife on Tenant King?

July 14, 2014 at 8:38 pmTenant King is a great resource and seems to be much more reliable and convenient than Craig’s List. Makes a whole lot of sense considering all the units already filled and being built in our neighborhood. The more people sign up in the area, the more useful it will become.

July 15, 2014 at 7:36 amAha, now I know what all those people in blue shirts were doing with their iPads and what Tenant King is. Sounds pretty useful, was it done just for Long Island City?
