Flooding, Shooting & Rents In Long Island City

FLOODING, shooting, the plagues are upon us in LIC. Pestilence anyone? No, that’s been temporarily superseded by Gamestop this week. ((requisite mention for all journalists this week, and if you don’t know, don’t bother)) Yet the real story for the large majority of residents is the increasing evidence of significant rent reductions here in Long Island City. According to a recent report by real estate firm MNS, rents here are down 14.42% year over year. Of course readers of LICtalk won’t find this overly surprising, as that’s the exact percentage we predicted back in May.

Dan Kluger’s ‘Penny Bridge’ Restaurant Opens Today In LIC

POLITIC’S finally takes a back seat with the great news that a new restaurant opens today in Long Island City. It’s called ‘Penny Bridge’ and it’s located in the new JACX Building in Queens Plaza. It’s the second restaurant from chef Dan Kluger, who opened Loring Place in Greenwich Village in 2016. According to Eater NY it serves a “menu of reimagined diner classics and childhood favorites.”

Trump Countdown Clock Long Island City — That’s all Folks!

THERE’S not much for me to add in terms of discourse to today and the events of the past few weeks. No local spin, other than maybe the picture above and what the numbers signify. Corazon de Mexico In Long Island City Closing For Good

WE are sad to report that Corazon de Mexico will close its doors for good on January 22. The Mexican restaurant, located at 10-09 50th Avenue, was opened in May 2018 by a mother/daughter team with a successful bakery in Woodside.

Politics, Crime & Real Estate For LIC In New Year

WHILE politics dominates the national news landscape in the very beginning of this New Year, crime took precedence locally as we exited 2020. In addition to shootings and beatings there was even a little white collar varietal thrown into the mix with the SEC charging an LIC man with insider trading for a cool mil.
