IT’S that time of year when we take the measure of the preceding 365, and 3650. And a recently installed traffic sign encapsulated the weariness of LIC in the 2020’s in the wizened eyes of The Editor. Exhibited all the way to the right in the photo above, its placement indicates that this one block stretch of 5th Street in Hunters Point is no longer 2-way. Back in the day, when everything was fresh, that actually would have been newsworthy in Long Island City. Lesser publications may have even devoted a whole article to it. Today it is just a street sign.

‘TIS The Season when things really slow down in the news biz. It’s when us veteran reporters usually hand over the reigns to the rookies and let’em try to squeeze blood from a stone. Which brings us to the announcement that a challenger has decided to run against our local councilwoman in next years primary. Putting it right up there with Covid Pandemic, Ukraine Invasion, and the World Cup when placed in the right journalistic hands. Or maybe we should all just head down to St. Bart’s immediately?

Several readers let me know that the windows are papered at BLVD, a winebar on Center Boulevard. Originally thought closed, it looks more like a renovation, which is exactly what the website says.
