YOU know things are slow when the top news story is about a patch of poison ivy growing on a fence along some obscure stretch in Long Island City. Furthermore it’s not even a local rag giving this trifle an overzealous who/what/where but citywide media. Even worse, there’s video that was broadcast on a TV station regarding this, ahem …appalling hazard (I did not watch it). And it’s not just one station, or even two, but multiple including WCBS, FOX, WPIX, and WABC. When the press makes the news, it’s time to go on vacation…
//WAIT there’s breaking news and it’s big, real big: A second Chinese restaurant is coming to Hunters Point! According to a small sign on the door of 10-07 50th Avenue, a restaurant specializing in Szechuan cuisine is being built out. No other info is available, but given that it’s formerly the home of Kavala Estiatorio which was run by the Shi/Skinny’s empire, I wouldn’t be surprised if they had a hand in it…

LONG Island City will get a third new BBQ restaurant in 2019 when Pig Beach opens it’s second location in the former Studio Square space up near the Astoria border. According to an article in Boro Magazine, this will happen in late Fall.

I remember making the pilgrimage to Mighty Quinn’s Bbq first location in the East Village soon after it opened with a ton of fanfare and love from the food critics. That’s what bbq lovers all across America do, make pilgrimages, but only in New York City do they do it by subway instead of by pick-up or beater. Well pilgrimage no more, because as previously mentioned Long Island City is getting it’s very own Mighty Quinn’s soon!
